Mark your calendars now for the 2010 Rock 'n Rib Festival in Downtown Tulsa. Four days of championship BBQ and live music are slated for September 16-19, 2010 on Third Street and Frisco Avenue in Downtown Tulsa.
Inaugural Festival Brings Thousands to Downtown
Desperado’s BBQ of Hinckley, OH was awarded the Urban Tulsa “Best of Show” Award at the inaugural 2009 Rock ‘n Rib Festival presented by Rib Crib BBQ & Grill. The outdoor festival welcomed 24, 301 visitors to Downtown Tulsa from September 17-20, 2009 to enjoy ribs from seven championship "pitmasters" and music from 13 bands on the ONEOK Stage.
Desperado’s, led by “pitmaster” Chris Glaser has been taking their award-winning barbeque to festivals across the country since 1989. Their specialties include succulent fall-off-the-bone pork ribs, meaty beef ribs, huge pork sandwiches, and chicken. Their trademark pink stickers with the phrase "Lick My Ribs" are given to each guest who stops buy their massive tent. Their rib recipe was chosen as the best by a panel of 9 judges comprised of representatives from the local media, festival sponsors, and the Tulsa Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Rasta Joe’s Jamaican BBQ from Plymouth, IN took the runner-up trophy. Judges particularly liked “Rasta Joe” Alexander’s signature barbecue sauce, a blend of local spices and Jamaican rum that he brushes on his hickory-smoked pork ribs.
